At Wayward Creek Farm, caring for our chickens, people and environment comes first. The result is great tasting, nutritious eggs that you can feel good about in every way.
Wayward Hens do what they want! They peck and scratch in the grass, roaming in the fresh air on pasture.* Our birds live in a biologically appropriate environment where they can forage for a diverse diet, with plenty of room to dust bathe, roost, nest and socialize.
Our farm and our eggs are always free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and GMO’s.
PASTURE RAISED EGGS PROVIDE SUPERIOR NUTRITION COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL EGGS
The Wayward Hens are moved twice each week into a fresh paddock, and they're never in the same place more than once each year. This keeps our birds healthy, avoiding exposure to pathogens and parasites. It also allows our pastures to get a dose of fertilizer and tillage-by-chicken, followed by a long period of rest.
Our management practices are revitalizing and transforming tired, depleted hay fields into thriving, diverse pastures.
In addition to forage on pasture, the Wayward Hens receive a grain mash. The feed is grown locally here in the Hudson Valley on farms that are in transition to organic certification. Wayward Creek Farm is not organically certified, but our feed is always free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and GMO’s.
Unlike commercial chicken feed, which is treated extensively with heat, pressure and moisture, our grain mash is minimally processed (think whole grains compared to refined white flour). The birds love it! Find out more about our feed from Stone House Grain.
*Our birds live on pasture only when seasonally appropriate. During the coldest and snowiest parts of the winter, they are housed in the barn with access to the outdoors for their comfort and welfare.
